There was an idea created over time that my friend, Aileen and I have been discussing about body image in fashion. The idea of women with curves or cuts are deemed for only fitness and/or vixen photography is obsolete. Considering that there was a standard created decades ago when fashion first hit the runways, we wanted to project the idea of a woman with curves having representation in fashion photography.
We put emphasis on the obvious parts of the body, but also looked at lines of the body frame that created its own curve or shape. The goal is to widen the spectrum around the ideas of beauty and subtracting the idea of curves being a sex symbol in art and imagery. With all of the women we see in fashion magazines close to size zero and below, there is room for women with more curves. I guess the question that has to be answered is: When can all body images be art without sexualizing or categorizing them?
